Why belonging at home matters

When I say I design interiors with belonging in mind, what I mean is:

Life pulls us in countless directions. Work demands our energy. Social events require us to adapt. Errands and obligations constantly ask of our time. In the midst of this constant movement and needing to fit in, I understand the profound importance of having a space that feels authentically yours—a sanctuary where you can finally be yourself.

To return to a place where you feel like you belong, rather than trying to fit in, is so important to me. I want to help clients shape their homes, so they feel a deep sense of belonging when they’re there.

That’s why I don’t design to trends or fads, or to a particular look.  Your home isn’t supposed to look like someone else’s.

My design process creates homes with belonging in mind:

  • A home that survives day-to-day living, because you don’t live in a palace

  • A home that celebrates regular meals with friends and family, not just the ‘fancy’ events

  • A home that has robust finishes so you can focus on enjoying it, rather than protecting it (from kids, from pets, from well-meaning but clumsy friends….)

  • A ‘hi-low’ home that combines your special investment items and vintage furniture together with more cost-effective selections

  • A home that maximises space and liveability rather than needing to be the size of an aircraft hangar

  • A home that isn’t pretentious or designed to show off; but one that’s autobiographical in nature.

Because belonging to a place is what home is all about.
